The Triad Institute for Health Research and Development (TIHRAD) recently conducted an antimicrobial resistance (AMR) awareness programme for approximately 200 secondary school students at Federal Staff School, Wammako, Sokoto State.
The initiative aimed to improve students’ understanding of antimicrobial resistance and promote responsible antibiotic use through community-based education and youth engagement.
During the interactive session, students learned about the dangers of antibiotic misuse, the importance of proper antibiotic use, and how individual health behaviours contribute to the spread of drug-resistant infections.
To enhance accessibility and comprehension, educational infographics used during the programme were translated into Sokoto Hausa, allowing students to engage more effectively with the information presented.
The session concluded with students voluntarily pledging to serve as AMR Ambassadors, promoting awareness about responsible antibiotic use within their schools, families, and communities.
The initiative reflects TIHRAD’s continued commitment to strengthening community-level awareness and supporting global efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance.
